Carlo Ancelotti Takes Charge at Chelsea
Impressive Arrival
WEB Carlo Ancelotti began his role as Chelsea manager in July 2009, arriving from Italy with an impressive CV. He replaced Guus Hiddink, who had been appointed as caretaker manager following the departure of Luiz Felipe Scolari earlier in the year.
Immediate Success
Ancelotti made an immediate impact at Chelsea, leading the team to victory in the FA Cup in his first season. The following season, he guided the Blues to their first Premier League title in four years, as well as the League and FA Cup Double. Ancelotti also led Chelsea to the Champions League semi-finals in both of his seasons in charge, but they were ultimately unable to win the trophy.
Departure
Ancelotti was sacked by Chelsea in May 2011, following a disappointing end to the season. He was replaced by Andre Villas-Boas, who was himself sacked after just nine months in charge.
Conclusion
Ancelotti's time at Chelsea was a successful one. He won three major trophies and helped the club to establish themselves as one of the top teams in Europe. His departure was a disappointment for many Chelsea fans, but he remains a popular figure at the club.
